Dr. Melanie Epe Quarch

Dr. Melanie Epe Quarch is a lawyer and economist. Her areas of expertise lie at the intersection of law, geopolitics, Artificial Intelligence and business. In particular, she focuses on sanctions and export control law as well as on the implications and possible applications of Artificial Intelligence in the legal and compliance field.

At RWE, she brings these themes together in her practical work. In addition to her role in sanctions and export control, she is AI Key Contact and is committed to the strategic and responsible use of AI in Legal and Compliance. In this capacity, she works on developing concrete AI use cases, building AI competencies, and examining how generative AI is changing legal working methods.

A particular focus of her work is on Legal AI and the digital transformation of the legal function. She addresses both the opportunities new technologies offer for legal work and the related requirements for responsible use and change within the legal and compliance department.

As Chair of the Women in AI Network at RWE, Dr. Melanie Epe Quarch is committed to involving women more strongly in the development and shaping of Artificial Intelligence. The network aims to connect women in the field of AI, strengthen their competencies and visibility, and thereby contribute to a diverse and inclusive AI transformation.

She also addresses Legal AI, digital transformation and the Gender AI Gap through her publications and as a speaker.

Beyond her professional activities, Dr. Melanie Epe Quarch is committed, as Chairwoman of the Deutscher Juristinnenbund in North Rhine-Westphalia, to feminist legal policy and diversity. A particular concern of hers is to strengthen the influence of women where the technological and legal frameworks of the future are being shaped, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
