About the speaker

Sebastian Wülbeck is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution practice at Dentons in Düsseldorf. He advises and represents companies in complex national and international disputes and supports clients both in court and arbitration proceedings as well as in the development and implementation of dispute and negotiation strategies. His focus areas lie in particular in technology and infrastructure disputes as well as in complex economically and technically driven projects.

Before joining Dentons, Sebastian Wülbeck was a Partner at a Magic Circle spin-off specialising in Dispute Resolution and, prior to that, in-house counsel at Uniper and Senior Associate at Clifford Chance in Düsseldorf. As in-house counsel and during a secondment at General Electric in Switzerland, Sebastian Wülbeck gained extensive in-house experience, including supporting disputes and projects in the energy and infrastructure sector. The different perspectives gained from an international law firm, a specialised dispute resolution boutique and a legal department shape his advisory approach.

In addition to his legal practice, Sebastian Wülbeck acts as an arbitrator, including in proceedings under the DIS Rules. He is a member of the German Arbitration Institute (DIS) and is involved there, among other things, as an arbitrator and Gender Champion. He is also coordinator of the Rhenish Round Table on Dispute Resolution and was previously co-founder and director of the Young Düsseldorf Business Lawyers association (JDWA) as well as founder of the German Litigation Circle.

Another key focus of his interest lies in the digitalisation of legal work. Sebastian Wülbeck has been intensively engaged for years with Legal Tech and the use of new technologies in everyday legal work. As an active user, he also follows the use of AI with great interest, while maintaining a critical eye on its actual added value, limitations and risks. He is particularly concerned with the question of which tasks can sensibly be supported or automated by technology, and where human legal expertise, experience and responsibility remain decisive.

Sebastian Wülbeck regularly publishes on current issues in dispute resolution, construction and energy law. His publications include contributions on the Energy Transition, offshore wind projects, the burden of proof in construction-schedule-related claims, as well as on questions of European civil procedure and competition law.

For his work, Sebastian Wülbeck was recognised by JUVE as one of the “40 under 40” in the field of Dispute Resolution.
